Hinterstoder: World Cup magic & family fun

The two sides of Hinterstoder-Höss ski resort

Hinterstoder is a small and charming municipality in the south of Upper Austria amidst the breathtaking Totes Gebirge mountain range. The ski resort is known for two things above all: On the one hand, it is a Ski World Cup resort – on the other, it’s a quiet family ski resort with tons of offers for beginners and kids.

Whether you prefer the Hannes Trinkl World Cup run and FIS training course or the children's ski area and adventure ski run: Hinterstoder-Höss has it all. In addition, there are several scenic ski circuits, cross-country ski trails, and snowshoe trails. Whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it on or near the local landmark mountain, Höss.

By the way: Families should also check out the child-friendly neighbouring ski resort of Wurzeralm. INTERSPORT Rent has shops in both winter sports destinations!

More about the ski resort

Families can usually be found on the Hütterer Böden in Hinterstoder. No wonder, because that’s where the Sunny Kids Park is. The largest children's ski area in Upper Austria boasts a ski carousel, practice lift, magic carpet, wave run, and more. Another highlight for cool kids is the action-packed SNOWtrail family adventure run to the right of Hirschkogel ski run.

Daredevils hurl themselves down the "Inferno" on Hösskogel, the steepest ski run at Hinterstoder-Höss ski resort. On the Sonnkogel speed course, those with a need for speed can show everyone what they’re made of. And the resort’s longest downhill run (number 13) impresses skiers and snowboarders with stunning scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

INTERSPORT Rent tip

Our RENTertainers recommend

If you’re into cross-country skiing, be sure to visit the high-altitude cross-country ski trail on Hütterer Böden. The start of the loop is at Hütterer Böden middle station, which you can reach either with the six-person cable car or via the toll road. A two-kilometre-long winter hiking trail also starts there.

There are two classic tracks and a skating track on the high-altitude trail. From the start of the trail, you follow the course for around three kilometres through gentle terrain to Edtbauernalm. Then you return along the same route. Take your time to enjoy the breathtaking views of the Totes Gebirge mountain range and the local landmark mountain, Höss!
